We are hiring a full-time Business Development, Manager reporting out of the EPCOR USA office in Round Rock, TX. This key role within the Business Development team focuses on achieving growth opportunities for EPCOR both in Texas and across North America. The position is Texas-based, with a preference for candidates in the Austin area, and offers options for remote or hybrid work.
The position is responsible for supporting the development of new water and wastewater projects for municipal and industrial clients. This includes ensuring accurate and timely input into municipal and regional needs, industry assessments, targeting studies, risk assessments, cost estimates, and valuations for projects. Along with project origination work, the role also involves sourcing the appropriate internal technical support and subject matter expertise, and participating in the financial analysis of projects. Strong relationship skills are required along with an analytical orientation and capability to work with technical subject matter. Excellent project management and organizational skills, and proficiency in writing and presentation are essential, along with a background in water, wastewater, or utilities.
What You’d Be Responsible For
- Conduct research and analysis of acquisition targets, utility project development opportunities, regulatory environments, rate comparisons, and related forecasts, including coordination with financial modelers to develop a supportable basis of valuation.
- Support the development of new water and wastewater projects by providing accurate and timely input into municipal and regional needs, industry assessments, targeting studies, risk assessments, cost estimates, and valuations.
- Source appropriate internal technical support and subject matter expertise for project development.
- Participate in the financial analysis of projects, ensuring thorough and accurate evaluations.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with municipal and industrial clients, ensuring their needs are met and projects are successfully executed.
- Prepare proposals for clients, both internal and external, requiring strong written and verbal presentation skills.
- Collaborate closely with Business Development, Operations, and Project Execution teams to provide input and develop solutions for various opportunities.
- Identify and mitigate project risks, including incorporating risk pricing into proposals if necessary.
- Prepare supporting information in a timely manner for business development activities, such as responses to RFPs with strict deadlines.
- Lead proposal responses, coordinating various teams and organizing diverse inputs into cohesive proposals.
- Understand the challenges related to Operations and Project Execution to ensure proposed solutions consider these challenges.
- Demonstrate a proven history of critical thinking, high performance, discipline, safety, accountability, focus, innovation, and achievement orientation, while maintaining an easy-to-do-business-with manner.
What’s Required to Be Successful
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of industry-related experience dealing with water, wastewater, or other utility systems, preferably in a business development, operations, or asset management role. Design or project management experience in delivering construction projects in a related industry is also acceptable.
- Knowledge and experience with alternative forms of project delivery.
- Exposure to business development activities, preferably with direct experience in proposal preparation and client contact.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and a history of challenging the status quo or finding innovative solutions to problems.
- Ability to contribute to positive group dynamics and collaborative relationships with other areas of EPCOR.
- Responsiveness to customer needs while protecting company interests.
- Ability to communicate directly with clients in a positive manner.
- Ability to nurture relationships with strategic partners.
- Adaptability in communication styles and project approaches to different clients.
- Ability to work independently as well as utilize supporting resources.
